Parade of Confections
The Parade of Confections will be held on Thursday, February 11. The Parade of Confections is a live auction of gourmet baked goods with a Valentine’s Day theme. There will also be savory snacks, door prizes, and a silent art auction! This year’s parade will also feature several goods and services from local organizations and businesses. February’s newsletter will have all the delicious details.

Charcoal Drawing: Wednesday, March 10 from 6:30-9pm
Pen & Ink Figure Drawing: Wednesday, April 14 from 6:30-9pm
Quick Sketches of the Figure: Wednesday, May 12 from 6:30-9pm
Clyde Mikkola is a copper country native who graduated from the University of Michigan in 1976. He finds his inspiration in nature and the people around him. He is a former participant in the Isle Royale Artists in Residence Program. All classes are $25 each and include all materials. Students must pre-register and pay at least one week in advance in order to hold their spot.
Knitting for Kids
Instructor Sarah Wilcox will introduce the yarns and equipment used in knitting and lead a simple knit project. Students will make their own knitting needles and a carrying case for their work. Knitting for Kids will be held Saturday, January 23 and 30. The fee is $35 and includes materials. Students are asked to bring a shoebox with them to class. Please register by Saturday, January 16.

2009 Shaft Winners
This year’s Shaft winners are Susan Hamilton, 1st Place for her mixed media painting, Tammy Gajewski, 2nd Place for her clay sculpture and Margo McCafferty, 3rd Place for her mixed media collage. Thanks to all who participated!
Poor Artists Sale Best Booth Awards
New to the Poor Artists Sale this year was the Best Booth Display competition. A team of three judges Bethany Stevens, Dan Schneider, and Meg Pachmayer looked at the booths independently then came together to choose the award winners. The criteria was striking and inviting display, ease of movement in the space, and effective integration of their art. A sincere thank you to Tim and Sue Bies for contributing to the first place award with a dinner for two at the Michigan House Café.

Poor Artists Sale Thanks
Thank you to all who donated baked goods to the Poor Artists Sale, we raised $340 at our hospitality table. Thank you to the staff at CLK schools, to the artists who donated artwork (valued at $1400) to be sold or auctioned throughout the year at our various events, and to Minnesota Public Radio for being our event sponsor. A special thank you to everyone who volunteered at the event and you, our members who renewed your membership at the Poor Artists Sale and those that have renewed through the mail.
Spinning Group will meet at 10 am on Thursday, January 7. This is not a class but all are welcome to come.

We mailed out a membership renewal form in November and if you still have it, stop by or send it in. If you’ve already renewed, please spread the word about becoming a member. Membership supports the CCCAC, one of the valuable links to cultural life in the Copper Country. Gratitude
