Youth Classes



    Knitting for KidsInstructor Sarah Wilcox will introduce the yarns and equipment used in knitting and lead a simple knit project. Students will make their own knitting needles and a carrying case for their work. Knitting for Kids will be held Saturday, January 23 and 30. The fee is $35 and includes materials. Students are asked to bring a shoebox with them to class. Please register by Saturday, January 16.

    Clyde Mikkola is a copper country native who graduated from the University of Michigan in 1976. He finds his inspiration in nature and the people around him. He is a former participant in the Isle Royale Artists in Residence Program. All classes are $25 each and include all materials. Students must pre-register and pay at least one week in advance in order to hold their spot.

    Paper Piecing Class

    Master artist Phyllis Fredendall will teach a workshop on the foundation paper piecing technique of patchwork.  This technique uses a paper drawing as a guide to make pictures or original designs in fabric. Fredendall will show students how to make an abstraction using straight lines and how to sort color by value­an exercise in applied color theory.

     

    Class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30, Monday, February 8 and 15.  Class fee includes materials.  Call for a list of optional materials you may want to bring.  Please register for Paper Piecing by Friday, February 5th.

    The mission of the Clay Studio Co-Op is to work within the Copper Country Community Art Center as an educational and interactive group of artists, wishing to explore the world of clay, while sharing the cost of supplies and equipment. What develops out of that simple mission is up to the group as we grow and change.
