The Kalevala is the epic poem of Finland and an important literary work. Its rich imagery provides a hearty topic for visual art. Our Kalevala exhibition fits nicely with Hancock’s mid winter festival, Heikinpäivä, taking place January 12-28th. Many people come to Hancock during this time and will enjoy our exhibition’s connection with Finnish culture. Join us for our Open House Reception on Saturday, January 28th from 2—4pm during Heikinpaiva. This month’s insert is a Kalevala letterpress postcard, printed at the CCCAC by Cynthia Coté.
The holiday break will mark the beginning of our renovations. Our team of construction volunteers will make the changes to move the Youth Gallery to an adjoining space with the Kerredge Gallery, the construction of our new Letterpress Studio and library reading room in the classroom area. We’ll let you know when it is all finished with an open house featuring a tour and letterpress demonstration.
