The Copper Country Community Arts Center announces its annual community exhibit on mining history in the Keweenaw. Artists are invited to submit artwork inspired by mining in the Copper Country, the physical signs of its presence, or the effect it has had on the area and its people. Entry fees go to Community Choice Awards. Cash prizes for Community Choice Awards! Details: Enter up to three pieces, $5 entry fee per piece. Entry fees go toward Community Choice Awards! Northern Woods
Northern Woods is an open call by the Copper Country Community Arts Center to all youth under 18 to create work about their favorite outdoor place in the Upper Peninsula. Living in the UP we get to be among beautiful lakes, forests, rivers, and valleys. This art call encourages youth to wander in the nature that surrounds us and create art that conveys its impact, importance, or beauty. Paintings, drawings, and sculptures are all welcome. Work will be displayed in the Youth Gallery. Exhibition runs October 10-November 28. Work must be picked up the first week of December. New this year, public vote for Best of Show! No entry fee. Deadline: Submit 1-3 works by October 3rd. |

CALL FOR ART: ANIMAL LIFE, ART FROM THE KALEVALA
DEADLINE: Drop off work through December 23rd or Saturday, January 17 from noon-4pm
Reception: Saturday, January 24 from 2-4pm.

Animal Life, Art from the Kalevala is an annual exhibition in coordination with the City of Hancock’s Heikinpäivä mid-winter celebration.
The Kalevala is a 19th century work of poetry compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Finnish and Karelian oral folklore and mythology. It is the national epic poem of Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish literature. The Kalevala is rich with imagery of animals including pike, swan, stag, bear, and many others.
Details: Artists are invited to delve into the Kalevala and find a reference to one of the many animals that are integral to the stories. Artists may submit up to three works in any medium and are asked to provide the lines or passages from the Kalevala that inspired the work. No entry fees. The Arts Center retains a 40% commission on all work sold. Mark entries with the retail price or NFS.
