CCCAC PERMANENT COLLECTION
In 1998 the Copper Country Community Arts Council’s Board of Directors made the commitment to establish a permanent collection. We started with the purchase of original watercolors by Barbara Cloutier and Edith Marshall when we produced Art in the Garden posters. Our collection has grown out of the interest and generosity of individuals. A friend of the Executive Director who was visiting from Vermont purchased and framed a painting by Jan Manniko of an early mine strike scene for us and Ed Gray contributed one of his large vessels with bone handle to the CCCAC which we felt should remain in the collection rather than being sold at auction. In the spring of 2004 we had the rare opportunity to purchase a painting by Peder Kitti. Thanks to Sharon Levine, Jennifer Slack, Erin Smith, Karen Rumisek, Phyllis Fredendall, Cynthia Coté, Yvonne Olivier, and an anonymous donor we were able to collect enough money to make a reasonable offer. We are pleased to have “Delaware” an oil painting created by Peder Kitti fom 1948 in our collection.
If you would like to help make it possible to purchase work significant to the history of art in the Copper Country please consider a designated gift. Or if you have work in your collection that you would like to donate, we are primarily interested in work by local artists that capture the essence of the Copper Country or that document historic events, landmarks, or lifestyle. The opportunity to locate and acquire early local artists is becoming scarce; we are looking for work by Alden Steck, Mabel Mustonen, Evelyn Carter, Alice Reynolds, and others. Please help us make up for lost time and secure an art legacy. Contact [email protected] for inquires.
