The Copper Country Community Arts Center announces the 29th community exhibit on mining history in the Keweenaw. Artists are invited to submit artwork inspired by mining in the Copper Country, the physical signs of its presence, or the effect it has had on the area and its people. Cash prizes will be given to Community Choice recipients! Award amounts are dependent on the number of entries we receive… the more participants, the bigger the cash prizes!
NEW this year! THE SHAFT: How Nature Reclaims This year we're trying a themed category for THE SHAFT. As residents of the Copper Country, we often see the remnants of our mining history returning to the landscape. Trees and plants come up through building ruins, poor rock piles are markers within towns, and old railways are our trails through the woods. As humans have altered the landscape, how has nature begun to reclaim or weave itself within these structures or remnants? Entry Deadline: Saturday, October 28 by 2pm For each piece submitted, include your name, email, phone number, title, medium, and price or NFS (not for sale). The gallery will retain a 40% commission on all work sold. Please mark each piece with the retail price. Entry Fee: $5 per piece, limit three pieces. ($5/one, $10/two, $15/three). No fee for youth entries, under age 18 (limit three pieces). All entry fees will be used for Community Choice Awards. The public may vote for their favorite pieces during the exhibition. Work must be picked up December 5-9, 2023. |
