SHIPSHAPE PROJECT
Help keep the CCCAC in shipshape! The Copper Country Community Arts Center is a large facility in need of regular maintenance and planned renovations. This page is dedicated to building projects assessed by our staff and board to be of critical importance. Our goal is to undertake what projects are feasible and most urgent each year. From painting to replacing windows to a capital campaign to remove our deteriorating asphalt shingles, all maintenance and repairs are important to keep the Arts Center safe and beautiful, inside and out!

We did it, thanks to your generosity! We raised $16,000 and surpassed our goal! Our current Shipshape project 2022:
- replace two sets of the front windows on Quincy Street
- replace one window in the front vestibule
- replace the backdoor and paint the outside entry
- retile the inside back entry
- replace the wooden side railing
- install a new sign that hangs perpendicular to Quincy Street
This is a year of milestone anniversaries for the Copper Country Community Arts Council and Community Arts Center! The CCCAC has served the Copper Country for fifty years, since 1972—and the Community Arts Center has been a key part of the downtown Hancock business community for thirty years. Meanwhile, our letterpress studio is celebrating its tenth anniversary. We’re committed to serving this area, continuing our mission of making the arts accessible to all.
Over the years, we’ve made many improvements to the inside of the building, making the classrooms and gallery space attractive, safe, and functional. Now, we need to attend to some pressing safety and efficiency matters.

Replacement of the exterior doors on Tezcuco Street. The current doors aren’t weather-proof, causing energy loss, allowing precipitation into the building, and creating damage to the floor. The current doors also lack a press bar for emergency exiting. A so-called “panic bar” would allow patrons to exit when the door is locked, without help from staff.
Replacement of the railing on the cement ramp leading to the Tezcuco Street doors. The railing is an important safety and accessibility feature. The current railing is warped, rotted, deteriorating and was damaged by a vehicle. Our wooden railing is in dire need of a solid replacement!
Replacement of two sets of the plate-glass windows across the front of the building, facing Quincy Street.
Of the two window sets slated for replacement, one is cracked and the other is sinking into its frame. This upgrade will improve the building’s energy efficiency as well as enhance safety. One side of our vestibule also needs a replacement window.
New sign! We also hope to commission a new business sign, to be mounted perpendicular to the building on Quincy Street. Our current sign rests flat against the building’s front façade, making it almost invisible to passing cars and subtle even to pedestrians and bikers. A sign that hangs perpendicular to the building will be more eye-catching and will fit in with the signs of the other businesses and restaurants in Hancock’s first block! |

Can you help us raise $15,000 match by August 15th for these improvements? Donate to our Shipshape Project today. Thank you!
